(*But Were Too Afraid To Ask).
Below is a quick Q&A for anyone that is curious, or on the fence. Hope to see you tomorrow morning!
Q: What is a community garden and why is NBR coordinating this event?
A: Just as the name suggests, a Community Garden is a single piece of land gardened collectively by a group of people. In this case, we will be transforming an empty 61 Franklin St into a space that will provide the neighborhood with fresh produce, plants, an opportunity for satisfying labor and a connection to the environment. NBR is involved in this because the DNA of our group is very much about building and sharing a sense of community. The leadership of NBR feels that this is a great opportunity to demonstrate that?
Q: What should I expect?
A: Start time is at 10 am. When you arrive, look for the NBR flag, and check in the Volunteer coordinator. Once enough people arrive, you will be broken into teams. Each team will have a leader and specific task. One team will be painting. Another will be composting. And another will be seeding. And another will be distributing mulch. …you get the idea. The plan is for us to work until about 1:30 or 2 pm (depending on weather, and workload). Then we are off to BRUNCH!
Q: can I come late.
A: We prefer you to come at 10 am. But will be happy to take you in if you have to come later!
Q: I am _ < Insert status here >_. Is this event for me?
A: this is an team-wide event, and all NBRs are welcomed and encourage to come. It does not matter how new or season you are to group. It does not matter who you hang-out with. It does not matter how fast or committed, slow, or uncertain you are. Regardless of your history, you are welcome and encouraged to join us! This event benefits the group and the neighborhood we occupy. Please come out!
Q: How should I dress?
A: If you have an old NBR shirt that you don’t mind getting dirty or stained, this it the ideal event to wear it to! Otherwise, make sure you wear light weight clothing. Bring a hat if you got one, sunglasses, and some sunscreen. wear comfortable shoes. the temperature is supposed to be 85 degrees when we start, and 95 when we finish.
Q: how do I deal with the heat?
A: We got you covered! We will have shaded areas for you to sit in, and plenty of bottled water for you. We will also have some extra sunscreen, just in case you leave some at home. Other good ideas for avoiding dehydration: Take breaks and rest in she shade frequently! Try to avoid excessive sun-exposure, alcohol and caffeine (at least during the gardening).
Q: Do I need to bring my own hand-tools and gardening supplies?
A: No! GWAP (the organization that is partnering with us) will be supplying shovels, rakes, gloves, hand-tools, and other supplies for us to get the job done! However, if you have a favorite trowel, pair of work gloves or tools you want to bring–please do so! It will be appreciated!
Q: what’s going on with the brunch afterwards?
A: Brunch is down the street at TBD (that is the name of the venue)! Here are walking directions to the spot.
Lastly – Big propers go out to Ryan and Lisa from GWAP, Kate Maxwell, John, Aja, Rob, Sherry, and of the NBR leadership and membership for making this event posable! See y’all tomorrow!
