How do I join NBR?

You are considered a member once you’ve signed up for and joined the Google Group, which will ask you a few questions about yourself and ask you to agree to the member code of conduct, liability waiver, and googe group guidelines.

How much does membership cost?

Membership is free. The club is run by volunteers and supported by gear purchases.

What paces do you run?

We have runners of all paces. Easy and Long runs will generally have run leaders pacing from 8 to 11+ minutes per mile, while Tempo and Track runs are run on loops that ensure nobody gets left behind.

  • For slower runners going 10 to 13 minutes per mile or slower, we have a supportive Party Pace group that folks can use to ensure they have someone to run with

  • For runners whose easy pace starts going below 8 minute pace and are looking for training dedicated to faster paces, we encourage you to reach out to the Local Competitive team leaders

Where do you meet?

When a run starts at McCarren Park, the club usually meets on the track side of Tom Stofka Garden. This spot is occasionally referred to as “The Bins” as there used to be recycling bins located here. For runs starting outside of McCarren, refer to emails from the Google Group.

Do I need to do anything before I show up?

Other than signing up for the Google Group, no. You don’t have to notify us ahead of time.

  • Most runs do not have a bag drop, so be prepared to carry what you’ve brought on the run

  • If you have any questions, reach out to the New Member coordinators

Do runs start right on time?

People tend to show up right on the indicated time, so don’t be alarmed if there’s nobody at the meeting spot if you show up 10 to 15 minutes early. Runs start 5 to 10 minutes after the meeting time.

What if I can’t run the full route?

You are welcome to end your run early or modify your run to accomodate your needs. Long runs usually begin with people announcing whether they plan to do the full route or make modifications.

How does racing under NBR work?

We encourage all members to enter “North Brooklyn Runners” as their team when signing up for races. Even if you consider yourself a slower runner, there is never a disadvantage or penalty to the club for you racing under the team’s name.

How does gear work?

As a free club, gear purchases are the club’s primary source of support. You can either pay for shopping or pick it up from one of our designated runs. New items or pre-sales will occasionally have special pickup options.
