March Runner of the Month: Megan Stoutz

Megan joined NBR in the fall of 2017 when she was training for her first marathon. In search of training partners for long runs, she began running Saturday Narwhals, “where I ended up learning a lot from some veteran marathoners. Shout out to Narwhals!”

Megan has since become a Wednesday Night Road Run leader, and was a panelist on a Nutrition Seminar for club members in June 2019. She volunteers when she can, runs most club points races, and shows up to training runs a couple times a week.

What she does when she’s not running: “I work as a clinical dietitian. In my free time I listen to a ton of podcasts, and also enjoy cooking.”

How she initially got into running: “I joined the track team in 7th grade and have been running ever since! I was a pretty slow runner in high school and ran on my own through college and grad school before joining NBR.”

Favorite race distance: “The marathon.”

Best running memory: “The 2019 NYC Marathon was one of my favorites. Running through the 5 boroughs alongside so many teammates was pretty cool.”

Favorite running route in NYC: “Long runs to the Rockaways. There’s nothing better than a swim after a long run. I also love running cross country in Van Cortlandt Park.

Favorite post-race food: “Pancakes and beer.

Favorite running social media account: “@des_linden (twitter) and Steph Bruce's YouTube channel are two of my favorites.”

Worst part about being a runner: “I’m always hungry! I love to eat, but it’s hard to out-eat marathon training. I started packing extra PBJs for my commute, which helps a lot.”

Best advice to running newbies: “Take it slowly and sign up for a race this year. It’s way easier to run when you know what you’re training for!”

Current running goal: “I want to run under 1:35 at the Brooklyn Half in May, and I’m thinking of training for a 5k this summer to improve my speed.”

Any other fun running facts: I just ran the Napa Valley Marathon on March 1 and finished in 3:18:30, a 12 minute PR and my first BQ! I’m pumped!”
