Race Recap: Salmaan Shikari's NYC Marathon

Yesterday was my first marathon. I started running a few times a week in 2018 and after a year of that, I thought of setting what seemed like the impossible challenge of running a marathon. One of my close friends pointed me to NBR (thanks Garrett James!) and the Hal Higdon book - which I used to prep.

What an amazing experience, it blew away my expectations. Perfect weather and the energy from the City, especially in Brooklyn, was amazing. Special thanks to the NBR water table.

The bottoms of my feet started to hurt around mile 19 and I had to walk from time to time after that, but I could feel the support from the crowd and all those friends who showed up to cheer. Thanks to this NBR community - you guys are amazing.

Also, some of the signs I saw when running:

1: Normal is just a cycle on your washing machine; 2: worst parade ever; 3: this would be much easier in a car; 4 the first marathoner died; 5: run, somebody farted; 6: run there is a tiger behind you; 7: 26.2 or I won’t say “I do”.
