August Runner of the Month: Alexander Walsh
When did you join NBR and why?
I joined NBR in 2009. I was looking to run with other people.
In what ways have you been involved with NBR?
I have been a run lead for various runs and a team captain.
How did you initially get into running?
I started running in high school. I've had several multi-year breaks, but have always come back to it.
What is your favorite race distance?
I like most race distances up to and including the marathon.
Favorite running route in NYC?
My favorite running spot in NYC is Shirley Chisholm State Park. However I run the most on Eastern Parkway mall and in Lincoln Terrace Park and Prospect Park.
What has running taught you or changed about you?
Running has shown me that the journey (training) is as important, if not more important, than the destination (race). I've also learned that runners are better people.
Favorite post-race food?
So many things!
Favorite song to run to / that makes you want to run?
Bobby Bare's "The Jogger."
Best advice to running newbies?
Keep it up, it gets better
Current running goal?
My goal is for the NBR Grandmasters team to finish in the top 3 and get invited to NYRR Club night
