August Runner of the Month: Darnell Murrell
Congratulations to our August Runner of the Month! During this time, we are continuing to featuring our runners who are essential workers here in NYC.
Darnell first joined NBR in May of 2019 after searching for a running club and finally having a friend recommend NBR. “I was sold when I saw the "3 Cs" on your website.” Darnell is a part of our Just Central runners, and in addition to a busy work schedule during the COVID-19 crisis, he is also maintaining a 40 mile/week running schedule!
What is your job and where do you work?
I am the Transfusion Safety Officer (patient blood management and quality in the Transfusion Medicine) at Lenox Hill Hospital.
How is your daily life right now?
It is a little easier to manage than prior months. I think my mind still has not processed the stress endured during the peak of the crisis. Feels like a dream and blur at times. Overall, I am managing and still getting in my morning runs.
Has running helped you cope during these scary times?
Running has been therapeutic for me during these times. There was a moment in early May where I was mentally exhausted; those early morning runs helped me through some really trying moments.
What's the one thing that keeps you going?
My family, friends, coworkers, teammates, and every runner I witnessed out there during these times.
Any inspirational thoughts or uplifting stories to share?
The amount of support received from the community with signs of encouragement at my job, to my neighborhood clapping every evening at 7pm was truly amazing. New York Strong.
Anything else you'd like us to know?
Stay safe, check on each other (I can't stress it enough), and look forward to running with you all again!!
