July Runner of the Month: Miranda Feamster

For Miranda Feamster, North Brooklyn Runners is a lot more than a run club.

Miranda knows - like the rest of her teammates - that NBR is race buddies, watch tan-line sharers, training partners, cheeleaders and more. NBR is family.

Since she joined last year, she’s become a regular fixture in the club, even joining the club’s sizeable contingent at Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth, Minnesota, and those who run with her know she’s as passionate about the club as she is crushing her own goals.

When did you join NBR and why?

I joined NBR Jan. 1, 2023 - I was looking for a community around the sport to learn and grow with... Little did I know at the time, I would not only find a community, but family here.

What do you do when you're not running?

Outside of selling real estate my other hobbies are traditional hot yoga, Orange Theory and spending time with my pup and kitty.

How did you initially get into running?

Running a marathon had always been on my list of long-term goals and at the time I was growing bored with my normal fitness routine and seeking a new way to challenge myself.

What is your favorite race distance?

My favorite distance to run is further than my previous longest distance. I get most excited thinking about pushing myself beyond my mental capacity to discover how far my body can actually go.

Best running memory?

Grandmas Marathon 2024 by far. I had the pleasure of running 3/4's of the race with Amanda and Katie and their energy kept the vibes at an all time high the entire time - 10/10 would recommend running with them any chance you get!

Favorite running route in NYC?

My favorite route to run is a loop along the Brooklyn waterfront over the Pulaski Bridge to Hunters Point South Park up to Gantry Plaza State Park and back again. With skyline views the entire time you can't beat this route in my opinion.

Any running-related superstitions?

If I don't stop to pet the puppies along the route the running gods will haunt me.

What has running taught you or changed about you?

Running has taught me my body is always stronger than my mind wants me to believe.

Favorite post-race food?

My go-to is a peanut butter, chocolate, banana protein shake with a sprinkle of cinnamon - it's so yum!

Favorite running social media account?
Savannahsachdev - I love her because she constantly reminds me that she is just a normal person who chooses to push herself out of her comfort zone to achieve amazing accomplishments, she's also incredibly funny!

What do you think is the worst part about being a runner?

Injuries, by far!

Best advice to running newbies?

Start off short and slow and stay consistent - you CAN and you WILL achieve all the things your heart and legs desire!

Current running goal?

3:15 for the Chicago marathon.
